Last weekend I celebrated the launch of my blog with close family and friends. It was a gorgeous day in Northern California, a nice surprise since the forecast called for rain! This was supposed to be a “simple lunch,” but obviously I lack self control when it comes to decor.. oops? As promised, here are some pictures, enjoy!
What’s a party without a photo backdrop? The colors of my blog layout were the inspo.
This Mimosa Bar was fun & easy to put together! I worked with a cupcake tier, photo frame, and juice carafes that I already had. I printed a few things from Pinterest (see links below), made my own cupcake toppers, and purchased the rest of the supplies at Hobby Lobby & Dollar Tree.
Most of the time I like to serve a variety of desserts. Cupcakes > sheet cake (to me). There seems to be less waste and usually a $1 box is sufficient for a family get together. I made the toppers myself simply by printing my logo, backing it with card stock, and attaching it to a toothpick. I use this trick with different printable images and its a nice personal touch.
Tip: Achieve decent piping just by putting icing in a ziplock bag and cutting an edge. I may not be getting my own cooking show any time soon, but I think it looks nice.
With four $1 plastic table cloths I created a back drop. Pin them up lengthwise (trimming if needed), cut three of them into one inch strips leaving a border at the top, then “braid” the layered pieces 4-6″ downward. Finish the ends with a loop and fan out the pieces.
Balloons were also from the Dollar Tree and the “Congrats” sign was re-used from my sisters baby shower!
I just realized that I never got pictures of the food.. fail.
Fruits, veggies, chips, and dip are the usual suspects. Food is usually the biggest expense at any party, but I do find that pizza, pasta, and salad are crowd pleasers. I ordered a bunch of stuff from BJ’s Brewhouse so that I could enjoy my time and not worry about cooking. It was a great afternoon spent with my loved ones!
