What is DoorDash?

DoorDash is an app that offers food delivery from a variety of merchants based on your location. From their humble beginnings in Palo Alto in 2013, to now 42 markets across North America, they’re rapidly expanding and for good reason! Food lovers everywhere are enjoying the ability to browse their favorite local restaurants, put in an order with ease, and enjoy the time saved from not having to cook.

Why Choose DoorDash

It’s all about balance! Yes, meal planning and eating at home will keep your family on budget, but sometimes Mom needs a break from cooking and let’s face it, even going out to get dinner can be a chore. DoorDash truly makes “Mom’s Night Off” a relaxing experience by bringing your favorite foods right to your door.

User Friendly
: Simply plug in the address you want your food delivered, choose from a restaurant that serves that area, order, and wait! I love that you get notifications when your food has been picked up and when your driver is on their way to you. There’s also an option in app to text your driver if you’ve forgetting anything; soy sauce, extra napkins, drinks, you name it!

Area Availability: When I first moved to Sacramento I was SO sad that DoorDash wasn’t available here! I downloaded the app anyway, spread the word to others, and within months they appeared! They’re now nationwide and the more people that show there is a market in their area, they’ll come. I also like that if a restaurant is not available in app, you can send a request and they will work on adding it to their network.

Referral Program
: Did somebody say FREE food? Yup! Once you sign up, you get a referral code to share with family and friends. When they sign up using your referral code, they get an amount off their first order and you get a credit for referring them! Read more about DoorDash’s referral program here.

Tips & Tricks

Cross Reference Yelp: While DoorDash does have a restaurant rating system, I tend to use Yelp before choosing which restaurants I want to order from. That way I can see pictures of menu items, read what diners did or did not like, and learn ways to alter menu items to my family’s tastes.

Use it EVERYWHERE: Don’t get discouraged if they don’t currently serve your area! Use DoorDash while on vacation by having food delivered to your hotel or send food to elderly parents/a starving college student in another city. Also, DoorDash doesn’t just deliver to homes! Have food sent to the park when your kids need an afternoon snack or at the little league game that went into triple overtime!

Prices May Vary: One thing worth mentioning is that the menu prices on DoorDash sometimes vary from the actual in restaurant prices. The upcharge allows DoorDash to operate and continue to pay their drivers a fair wage. Also, drivers are your “mobile waiters” so if you are happy with their service, please show them your appreciation through your gratuity (cough, tip well, cough).

Maximize DoorDash

Convenience doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg! Here’s how to get the best deals on DoorDash..

Free Delivery: Delivery fees range from $1.99-$5.99 but there are always places offering FREE delivery! Try something new and enjoy the savings.

Promo Codes: Check your email before you order as DoorDash regularly sends out promo codes for select restaurants. Discounts were given when you ordered during the Olympics, Super Bowl, and randomly offered midweek.
